Software Quality Assurance in HPB

Challenge

As part of continuous improvements to its IT environment, Hrvatska poštanska banka (HPB) faced the critical task of maintaining reliable and stable operations throughout the upgrade process. To secure seamless operations, HPB required a robust quality assurance strategy that could validate both functional and rigorous non-functional requirements.

The primary challenge lay in modernizing the testing paradigm: in addition to traditional SQA methods, to introduce a fully automated testing framework for the new system, while simultaneously conducting performance testing to support the platform’s readiness under high-volume transactional loads.

Project Goals
  • 01

Automate testing for SEPA and TARGET payment processes

The regression testing for SEPA credit transfers, direct debit, TARGET payments, and SCT Instant payments must be automated
  • 02

    Automate testing for banking channels

Mobile banking and internet banking applications also need automated testing of both the interfaces, as well as backend logic
  • 03

    Test system performance

Various performance tests must be run to ensure system throughput, optimal resource usage, and overall stability under high transactional loads

Solution

Kodilion was involved early in the project, as an experienced QA partner. We helped shape the system’s quality framework by combining domain knowledge in payment systems with advanced SQA techniques. We successfully implemented a robust automated testing structure and executed rigorous performance validation to ensure that the new platform will seamlessly scale alongside HPB’s evolving operational and transactional demands.

Project Deliveries
  • 01

    Automated tests for payment processes

The functional tests for various payment instruments were iteratively developed, using modern tooling and tailored processes.
  • 02

    Automated tests for banking channels

Automated tests were developed for selected mobile banking functionalities for retail and corporate users, supporting more reliable releases of customer-facing applications.
  • 03

    System performance tested regularly

Multiple runs of performance tests were performed, supporting timely performance optimization, and validation.

Tech & Business

Technologies & Architecture: vendor-provided software, mobile applications, distributed architecture

Testing & Performance: Tricentis Tosca, Gatling

Business Standards: SEPA Rulebooks, ISO 20022, TARGET2

quotemark

Test automation across diverse tech stacks is uniquely challenging, and it proved so in this case as well. But with the right framework and tooling, it’s also very rewarding to see it all pay off with quicker regression testing and a quicker deployment cycle.
